St Margaret's Roof
Unfortunately, although St Margaret's is a relatively new building, it has suffered from various defects and construction problems over the years. One of the most acute problems was the fact that the roof was not watertight and so anytime that it rained the church was inundated. Interior furnishings would be damaged, parishioners would get wet inside the church, and the floor would become dangerously wet. This could not be allowed to continue.
Thankfully in 2006 Canon Tartaglia was able to secure a grant from Historic Scotland and the National Lottery to allow the entire roof to be replaced. This was obviously a major job, but it was necessary and desirable, and it was a great success. We have not had any water ingress from above since the work was completed. The grant funding only met around half the cost, the other half was met by a bank loan which is still being paid off. If you wish to help please see "How can I help?" below.
The "Before" and "After" pictures below help highlight the changes as seen from above. There has been no digital enhancement of the "After" image - the new roof really is that much whiter!

How Can I Help?
We still need your financial help to pay bank the bank loan. We still owe in the region of £36,000 (December 2017)
Our primary fund raising effort is the second collection, which is taken up at St Margaret's most Sundays. All the money given to the "Roof Fund" is used to pay back this loan. Instead of putting money in the collection plate many people prefer to use a Standing Order direct from their bank accounts. Whichever way you choose to pay, if you are a taxpayer then by filing a Gift Aid declaration then the Treasury will give us some of your tax money above and beyond what you have given us directly. Please consider signing up for this scheme. It is easy to do so - just speak to Canon Tartaglia.
From time to time there are also one-off fundraising events which all parishioners are encouraged to support and have raised many thousands of pounds so far.
